I can’t believe I have only 11 more days of work left. !! I can feel my pace picking up, as it usually does as I approach a deadline. It’s a quirk of mine that I like to have things finished, neat and tidy before going out to have fun or move on to something else. Whether this is good or bad is debatable – applying it flexibly is probably the healthiest thing I can do.
\nFlexible obsession, in this case, looks like passing on tasks to the person who’s succeeding me while wrapping up those that I can. In other words, not being a control freak or a perfectionist, but taking responsibility to see that loose ends are tied, connections made, projects discussed.<\/p>\n
I’m pleasantly surprised to find that even with the few days remaining, I haven’t been freaked out or thrown over the edge by some of the incompetence I’ve encountered. Not by my coworkers, the person to come after me, or anyone near me. Instead, it’s a supplier that apparently dropped the ball on a vital give-away that we planned for the fall orientations; and HR, who finally sent me the form I need to fill out before leave AFTER I get in touch with them to ask if there are any forms I need to fill out. Not impressive, people. But manageable.<\/p>\n
The other pending deadline is our Wed. morning departure for 5 days of vacation and the annual ABS conference. Oh yay! We’ve both been working hard and long to finish what we need to so we can enjoy the getaway guilt-free. The weekend was typically filled with doing stuff and making lists (longer lists than we could tackle). And it’s almost 9 on Monday and we’re at work still, heading towards the departure deadline. I’m still not comfortable with the “rush rush” mentality I can have as i try to complete what I think is urgent, but I haven’t found a way around it yet. I hope that in wanting to find a different way, somehow my subconscious will figure it out.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, I’m going to get as much done as I can tomorrow, and relax and enjoy my time away. Yay for working together, getting things done, enjoying the process and taking a break!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
